Swindon Harriers closed out their summer season in style with two athletes having weekends to remember in Holly Scott and Tye Leo-Stroud.

14-year-old hammer thrower Scott beat her own personal best distance of 45.62 metres three times at the Black County Hammerfest in Wolverhampton on Saturday, as she launched the 3kg implement to firstly 45.72m, then 45.81m before finally recording 46.64m.

That distance was enough to secure her the best throw of the weekend, as well as moving her up to fourth place in the UK U15 Rankings and second in England just one centimetre behind Morpeth’s Alexandria Hodgson.

Scott has even defeated the current UK number one, Evie Cooper of Neath, in competition this season at the Swindon Open.

Securing her new best distance means that Scott leapfrogged ahead of rival Tegan Brown of Tavistock into the number one spot in the South West Rankings.

Scott has improved her 2022 best of 39.07m no less than nine times this year whilst competing in 29 competitions during the season, beginning way back on April 2nd with 39.93m as she now moves on to the under 17s team from this Saturday as she begins Swindon Winter Throws.

Elsewhere, Leo-Stroud confirmed himself as the overall winner of the 100 metres in the newly launched South West Sapphire League.

Leo-Stroud said: “The first season post-injury is always tough but undoubtedly it has gone exceedingly well.

"To endure and output performances in the Sapphire League despite more setbacks this season has been mentally and physically taxing.

“However, I am grateful for what I have accomplished this season and I finally have some hardware to display for all my hard work.”

Over the season Tye scored a total of 46 points to beat Somer’s Richard Maddock by eight points with Bristol & West AC junior sprinter Ryan Brady third.

The event has been newly formed and works in the same format as the Diamond League, with points scored by athletes competing in the 15 nominated events throughout the South West, commencing from the Yeovil Open on April 8th and culminating in the Swindon Harriers Open on September 10th.
