Morecambe boss Derek Adams said that Swindon Town were “fortunate” to get a point after their 2-2 draw against Morecambe in League Two.

Swindon twice took the lead through Dan Kemp’s early header and Charlie Austin’s penalty, but goals from Jake Taylor in the first half and then Ethan Walker after Yann Songo’o had been dismissed in the second half meant the points were shared.

After the game, Adams said that he felt Swindon were lucky to come away from Lancashire with even a single point, believing his side had done more than enough to earn all three.

Speaking to club media, he said: “I thought we were the team that created the best opportunities in the game.

“If you look at that first half, the number of chances we had on goal was frightening, we should have scored three or four in that first half.

“They got fortunate with their first goal and got ahead in the game, but we pegged them back.

“The character of the team was magnificent to come back and get a goal back, we made five substitutions, and we were in the ascendency and probably should have gone on to win the game.

“We have competed really well against a team that have done exceptionally well at the start of the season, and we feel that we should have won the game.

“Today a point was undeserved for Swindon, we should have had the three.”

Adams also took issue with the awarding of the penalty for a foul that saw Songo’o given his second yellow card.

He said: “The referee made another error, he made one last week at Gillingham, I am disappointed for him because he is a young official and this was only his sixth game in League Two today.

“He has made a huge error again, it is outside the box, he doesn’t get any help from his linesman or the fourth official and he will probably get marked down today for that.

“He has cost us a penalty kick and a goal in a game where we were well on top.

“Mike Jones, the referee supervisor, was here again today and he will probably have to sit down with his officials, look at it, go back to the drawing board, and teach them the laws of the game.

“You can’t get these major decisions wrong, and it is another one they have got hugely wrong for us today.”
