Player ratings: Morecambe 2 Swindon Town 2

Dan Kemp’s sixth of the season and Charlie Austin’s second in two game looked to have been enough for Town to get all three points, but goals from Jake Taylor and Ethan Walker meant the points were shared.

So, how did the players fare as individuals at the Mazuma Stadium?

GK: Murphy Mahoney – 6

Mahoney would have been disappointed to give the ball away for Morecambe’s second goal, but you would be hard pushed to place much blame at his door for this result. He made a string of top saves during the first half when Morecambe were causing Town problems.

RCB: Udoka Godwin-Malife – 6

This was another solid performance from Godwin-Malife as he largely shut down Jordan Slew and also linked up well with Remeao Hutton. You could argue he was a little flat-footed for the first goal, but the error happens before him.

CB: Tom Brewitt – 6

Brewitt’s enjoyment of the art of defending is serving him well right now as he delivered another defensively sound performance. He is cutting out the errors that were plaguing him early in the season and even when he does misjudge things, he is recovering well.

LCB: Frazer Blake-Tracy – 5

Morecambe’s danger man throughout was the right winger Tom Bloxham and it felt at times that Blake-Tracy and Tariq Uwakwe were unsure whose responsibility he was. Standing off Bloxham for the first Morecambe goal proved particularly costly as Town looked to ride out that storm.

RWB: Remeao Hutton – 7

After a few quiet games by his standards early in the season, Hutton is looking a lot more like himself in recent weeks. He is making things happen down the right and deserved at least one assist for a great cross to Jake Young.

CM: Saidou Khan – 6

There were a few times in possession when Khan was a bit slow and stalled some good positions, but he is vastly improved this season defensively. Teams are having no joy up the middle against Swindon right now and Khan is a big reason why.

CM: George McEachran – 7

McEachran is playing at a very high level at the moment, impacting the game all over the pitch and being the conductor to dangerous attacks. Morecambe were trying to be aggressive in midfield and he did not back down.

LWB: Tariq Uwakwe – 5

Another quieter display from Uwakwe. As I said for Blake-Tracy, neither of them managed to deal with Bloxham and he was the only way the Shrimps were going to score. He held his width well in attack, but did not creating as many opportunities as his peers.

CAM: Dan Kemp – 8

Yet another top showing. After being crowded out for large period against Walsall, Kemp was keen to make use of the space on offer at the Mazuma Stadium. He was always available and had a big hand in both goals.

ST: Charlie Austin – 7

Two in two for Austin, those shooting boots appear to be back in the kit room. But the best part of his performance was the way he dropped in and linked play, shown particularly in the build-up for the opener.

ST: Jake Young – 6

A great assist for Kemp’s goal and despite not getting on the scoresheet himself, he was a big factor. He was running the channels well and linking up with Kemp to great affect numerous times. If it weren’t for Stuart Moore then he would be on double figures already.

Subs:

Rushian Hepburn-Murphy – 5

He made his presence known off the bench and had one header that went narrowly over. But he was on the pitch for a period when the ruthless touch deserted Swindon.

Tyrese Shade – 5

Of course, he had another go at the near post, this time forcing a save. He got involved in his time on the pitch, but it rarely led to a dangerous situation.
