THE FRUSTRATION of failing to end a near three-year wait for a victory at the Adrian Flux Arena is proof of just how far the Swindon Robins have come this season, according to Alun Rossiter.

The Robins team boss saw his side, who last tasted victory at the home of the King’s Lynn Stars in June 2013, come within a whisker of recording a sixth straight victory in the Elite League but they were instead left to settle for a draw after the hosts recorded a storming heat 15 maximum – their first of the night – to tie things up at 45-45 at the death.

The two points that Swindon plundered in Norfolk were still enough to see the Robins soar above Wolverhampton Wolves and return back to the top of the table and Rossiter sees his riders’ disappointment at not finishing off the Stars for a second time in seven days as a silver lining.

“I suppose that it’s good – the frustration – that we’re coming away with two points,” said Rossiter.

“I think most people thought we had it but hey-ho – fair play to them; they battled back well.

“I think that everybody thought that we could just get a couple of points in the last heat.

“Obviously, Doyley’s just coming back from injury and it’s a big ask but that’s just the way it goes, unfortunately – we move on.”

After injuring his ankle whilst riding in Poland at the weekend, Robins skipper Jason Doyle, who took part in the dramatic final heat, passed a last-gasp fitness test and was declared fit to ride, whilst Rohan Tungate was also still feeling the effects of his crash during Swindon’s thumping victory over King’s Lynn last week.

But after two fourth-placed finishes, Tungate recovered to score five in his final two rides.

Rossiter added: "He’s done really well. He struggled a bit and I thought ‘here we go. I knew I should have got a guest in’ but in fairness, he came back strong at the end there, which was pretty good.”

The Robins are next in action when they host reigning champions Poole Pirates on Bank Holiday Monday (4pm start).
