PHIL Hampson was both hero and villain for Division Two pacesetters Westbury Town as his goal before getting himself sent off earned his team a 3-3 draw at home to a Trowbridge Rangers side who, after coming from behind to lead 3-2, threatened to spoil Westbury’s pre-Christmas party.

Goals Phil Hampson and Adam Bewley put a very under-strength Westbury side 2-0 up and Matt Gardiner’s side looked on course to repeat their 5-2 winning score line from earlier in the season.

Trowbridge had other ideas and got themselves back in the game through Cameron Thomas who himself later saw red with Hampson. Sam Miller restored parity for Rangers prior to half time.

Rangers took a shock lead via Will Jacomb and an upset was on the cards until Hampson bagged his second of the afternoon to earn Westbury a valuable point in their promotion bid.

However, his day was to end in disappointment as, along with Ranger Thomas, they were sent for an early bath.

A 6-1 victory for Trowbridge Wanderers Reserves at home to Calne Eagles saw Matt Rusling’s side move into third spot in the table.

Wanderers completed the league double over Calne Eagles thanks largely to an emphatic first half performance which saw them cruise into a 5-1 lead.

Calne started the game brightly and took a deserved lead after 10 minutes when Russell Diver tapped in from close range from a Dan Burgess free-kick.

However, Trowbridge hit back five minutes later when Will Bayley latched onto a long ball from Elliot Blanks and raced through on goal unopposed to equalise.

Sadly this was a setback from which the away team struggled to cope with and this saw Trowbridge totally dominate the remainder of the first half.

Jordan Pinder put Wanderers ahead when he found the top bracket after a good save by the Calne keeper. It soon became 3-1, Ferris Lamrabet cutting inside from the left and squaring to Nathan Osbaldeston to fire home.

A great individual goal for Jordan Pinder saw him pick the ball up on the left, beat two men and slot into the bottom corner for 4-1. Nathan Osbaldeston completed the first half scoring with another neat finish again after being set up by Lamrabet.

Right at the start of the second half Trowbridge started to look like they would go on to hit double figures with ease when Ferris Lamrabet completed a hat-trick of assist when he teed up Will Bayley for his second and Wanderers sixth of the game.

However, as in their previous match, Calne’s performance was improved by a triple substitution. They brought on recent signing Aaron Knowles and veteran defenders Roy Wenham and Gary Wootten.

This reshuffle seemed to calm down the panic in the shell-shocked visitors defence and in the last 35 minutes both teams competed equally, as they had done in the first 15 minutes of the match.
