SPRINT driver Bradley Hobday has smashed five records and clinched a regional championship in his first season in a single seater.

The Trowbridge ace is no stranger to sprint racing, winning the championship in 2012 in a modified Renault Cleo.

This season, Hobday won all 10 rounds breaking five lap records scoring maximum points and clinching the championship one round early .

The 26-year-old also took three fastest time of the day awards in the series in his Jedi.

Hobday and fellow competitors Matt Carter and Ian Parr teamed up to win the national team inter associates sprint contest this year on behalf of the Association of South West Motor Club.

This contest was held at was Castle Combe against all the regional championship contenders from around the country.

Hobday is now developing his Jedi single-seater to produce more power, with his sights set on the National series the MSA British Sprint Championship.

Family friend and race mechanic Brian Berrett persuaded the youngster to move to single seaters.

Hobday said: “Without Brian’s help and his advice I probably would not be in this winning position.

“His mechanical preparation work on the car made it so competitive.”

Sprints are a timed competition against the clock over one and three-quarter laps of a race track from a standing start.
