“As Wiltshire’s first female Police and Crime Commissioner, keeping women and girls safe will be my priority.”

Vice-Chair of Wiltshire Police and Crime Panel and Chair of Build a Better Swindon Committee, Councillor Stanka Adamcova is standing to become your next Police and Crime Commissioner on May 2nd, 2024.

Councillor Stanka has pledged to combat violence against women and girls. She says, “Women tell me that they do not feel safe when walking home. My neighbours told me how much they worry about their daughter. She is only 13 years old, and she has already experienced being cat-called. The epidemic of violence against women and girls needs to stop. During 12 years of Conservative Police and Crime Commissioners, Wiltshire Police has been put in special measures, for example under 23% of rape and sexual assaults result in justice for the victims.”

Labour has committed to using all the levers of government to deliver on a mission to halve levels of violence against women and girls within a decade. This includes domestic abuse, rape, sexual violence and stalking. Councillor Stanka wants to set up an Independent Advisory Group for Violence against Women and Girls to make sure their views on policing are heard and actions can be taken to start rebuilding the trust and confidence in Wiltshire Police.

Liz Webster, founder of Save British Farming, is an activist on rural crime and a former Police and Crime Commissioner candidate for the Liberal Democrats. She is backing Stanka. She says, “Stanka lives in Swindon, but she grew up in the countryside. She has the right skills, experience, and values for the job. She is also the only female candidate and I know that I can trust her to fight the epidemic of violence against women and girls. If anyone can ensure that Wiltshire’s women and girls feel safe again it is Stanka.”

Councillor Stanka welcomes Labour’s national commitment to recruit a further 13,000 neighbourhood officers. She says, “Vote for me on May 2nd to become Wiltshire’s first female Police and Crime Commissioner and I will fight to ensure Wiltshire Police gets its fair share of these additional officers to improve safety. It will be my privilege to represent our communities.”
