A woman has been charged with causing the death of Swindon teen Harry Parker.

The 14-year-old was hit by a car on Akers Way, just outside his school on November 25, 2022, and later died from his injuries after being airlifted to hospital.

A police investigation ensued and a woman in her 50s was arrested shortly afterwards and then released on bail.

Now Wiltshire Police has confirmed that charges have been pressed against Ivy Mwangi, 52, from North Swindon.

Mwangi faces charges of causing death by careless driving and for causing death by driving a vehicle without a licence and insurance.

She is due to appear at Swindon Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

The maximum prison sentence for causing death by careless driving, as per sentencing guidelines, is five years.

Following his death, Harry's parents, Kelly and Adam, released a tribute to him, describing him as their 'golden boy'

“This is something no parent should ever have to say. Our beautiful golden son Harry Parker was involved in a horrendous car incident along the horrible road Akers Way.

“Unfortunately, he lost his life far too soon. Harry will be missed by lots but no more than us, his family.”

“Harry was a cheeky chap that could light up the room with just his presence. He had the biggest heart and loved to make people laugh.”

His family have since set up a road safety campaign called 'Harry's Get Home Safely Campaign' to make the roads around Swindon's schools safer.

Swindon Borough Council has installed flashing 20mph school signs on either side of Nova Hreod Academy, and the campaign has installed banners directly at the crossing where Harry was hit, urging drivers to slow down.

Harry's father Adam Parker has also spent hours personally at the crossing helping to ensure that children can cross safely.

The teen has also been remembered with the installation of a memorial bench near the crossing.

An event was also held on the anniversary of his death last year, his friends and family gathered to raise money for the campaign.

They also unveiled that the hut used by his football team Ferndale Rodbourne FC had been renamed Harry's Hut in his honour.

At the event, Adam said: "I think this is a long-lasting memory for Harry and for what the club meant to him."
