A TEENAGE girl who stabbed a man with a broken bottle fearing she and a friend were 'under some sort of sexual threat' has walked free from court.

The 17-year-old was high in drink and drugs, brought to the party by the victim in his mid thirties, when she lost control and plunged the makeshift weapon into his arm.

And as a result of the injury to Lee Tipping's arm he suffered heavy blood loss and had to undergo an operation to clean out the wound.

Tim Akers, prosecuting, told Swindon Crown Court how the teenager had met the man, who is roughly twice her age, at a house party on Friday, February 12.

He said Mr Tipping, who was with a young friend, had brought half an ounce of cocaine with him.

They all drank spirits and the defendant was described by others as being very drunk and was seen dancing provocatively with Mr Tipping.

After a while the girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, went back to her flat with the victim and two teenage girls.

Mr Akers said one of the younger females went to sleep in the bed leaving the other three on a sofa bed, with the defendant in the middle.

He said when Mr Tipping reached out to touch the other girl on the leg it 'seemed to spark something off', in the defendant who started to punch him.

She tried to get him to leave and went to the kitchen area of her flat and grabbed an Amaretto bottle they had earlier been drinking from.

Shouting at him to get out, she smashed it and then plunged it into his arm, causing a deep, 10cm wound which gushed blood.

The girl's teenage friend fled the flat and in a 999 call just before 5am described her as 'going really psychopathic'.

The teenager admitted a charge of unlawful wounding.

Gareth James, defending, said: "It is a very tragic and difficult situation when a young lady finds herself in court for assault of this kind.

"She accepts she cut him with a bottle. She had initially acquiesced to him coming in to her flat.

"After that what she did not acquiesce to was what she perceived to be a sexual advance to her and a friend.

"After that she seemed to have suffered some sort of aberration causing her to hit him and tell him to get out of the flat."

Mr James said that his client had experienced great problems in her life and the probation service were keen to offer her help.

Passing sentence Judge Douglas Field said: "On the night in question everyone concerned was drunk and had taken drugs.

"The complainant, Mr Tipping, I am told was in his mid thirties.

"For some reason you perceived at a late stage of your engagement with him that you were under some sort of sexual threat, and you lost control of yourself and you broke that bottle and you used that broken part of a bottle to stab him in the arm causing a very serious wound indeed.

"One's first reaction to that is that this is a case which calls out for a custodial sentence, but I have had an opportunity of looking at your background.

"You have had a very difficult background. You have now been diagnosed as suffering post traumatic stress disorder."

He imposed an 18 month youth rehabilitation order with a three month night time curfew.
